Acupuncture, Trigger Point Dry Needling
Acupuncture is form of drug-free medicine involving the insertion of solid acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. No drug is injected. The needles alone create the beneficial effects of acupuncture.
Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and inflammation of affected areas of the body, and to release tension in tight muscles. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications. The needles used are sterile disposable needles. The acupuncture treatments are provided by our Registered Physiotherapists who have taken additional training and certification in Acupuncture.
Trigger Point Dry Needling (TPDN) involves using acupuncture needles to release trigger points. Trigger points are palpable taut bands (knots) in muscles that cause pain, stiffness, soreness and restrict normal muscle function. Typically when pain or dysfunction have been present in an area of the body for a prolonged length of time the muscles surrounding the area can develop trigger points. The trigger points then add to the pain and dysfunction and can perpetuate the problem. TPDN is an effective drug-free method of treating trigger points.
