Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the specialty in healthcare that focuses on the prevention and treatment of injury through physical means. Physiotherapists are university trained professionals that can assess for physical dysfunctions resulting from injury, or disease and design and implement treatment programs to help restore normal mobility, strength and functional ability. (For more information about physiotherapy please visit the Canadian Physiotherapy

Association website and the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy website).

Our therapists treat a wide scope of injuries from sports, car accidents, work or repetitive strain including neck and back strains/sprains, disc problems, rotator cuff/shoulder tendonitis, knee ankle and foot pain and dysfunction. We also treat arthritic conditions as well as post -operative rehab.

The first step is an initial assessment during which our therapist will perform an in-depth interview and detailed hands-on physical assessment to identify problematic areas. The therapist will then develop a treatment plan to address the problems and review the treatment options with you. Some treatment options available are:

Manual Therapy: 1 on 1 hands-on joint and soft tissue mobilisation/manipulation to improve joint and tissue mobility, including spinal manipulation
Therapeutic exercise: individualised, problem-specific exercise programs, sport specific rehab, core strengthening, pelvic floor retraining
Modalities (to improve healing and modulate pain and inflammation):

Laser & Ultrasound : for safe and optimal tissue healing

Shockwave Therapyfor the treatment of persistent heel pain, plantar fasciitis, chronic/calcific tendonitis, tennis elbow and other chronic soft tissue problems

Interferential Current: for pain control

Electrical Muscle Stim.: to improve muscle strength and function

Acupuncture/ Dry Needling:   for drug-free pain control, inludes electro-acupuncture

Spinal Traction:  for disc bulge/herniation, sciatica, spinal decompression, degenerative disc disease

Biofeedback, EMG: for muscular re-education and correct muscular imbalances, to improve posture

Therapeutic Taping, Custom Knee Bracing and other braces
